3-3/4” Tile Maker

The 3-3/4 inch Tile Maker from Colour de Verre casts one glass tile per firing. A single tile makes a practical coaster on its own; fire a batch of thirty and you have material for a custom kitchen backsplash or a decorative wall installation. The cavity holds 170 grams of frit to produce a finished tile at the full 3-3/4 inch size.

Like all ceramic casting molds, this one is COE agnostic. Load the cavity with frit and fire it to shape. Colour de Verre calls for priming the mold before every use and heating at a controlled rate. The mold is reusable across many firings with proper prep and care.

• Prime the cavity with a kiln mold primer before every use. Colour de Verre specifies ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer or Hotline Primo Primer. Let the primer dry completely before adding frit.
• Fill the cavity with 170 grams of frit. Varying frit sizes can produce different surface texture in the finished tile.
• The mold is COE agnostic. Use a firing schedule matched to your glass.
• Let the kiln cool fully before removing the tile. Re-prime the mold before each subsequent firing.

Colour de Verre Suggested Firing Schedule

This is a suggested starting schedule, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold and test a small run before committing to a full batch.

• Heat at no more than about 350 F (195 C) per hour through all heating segments.
• Fire to no more than about 1450 F (785 C) at top temperature.
• Hold briefly at top temperature, then move into a controlled cool.
• Anneal soak: about 900 F for COE90, or about 950 F for COE96. Hold at the anneal temperature, then cool slowly to room temperature.
