COE90 Etched Iridescent Glass pairs iridescent glass with our own etched patterns. Iridescent glass carries a soft metallic surface sheen, and the etched pattern adds line and detail across that luster, for a subtle, shifting shimmer in fused glass, jewelry, and kiln-formed work.

What iridescent glass is

Iridescent glass has a thin metallic surface treatment that produces a soft, oil-on-water sheen, in finishes such as gold, silver, and rainbow. It is more subtle than dichroic: the luster shifts gently with the light rather than flipping between strong colors. On these sheets a pattern is etched into that surface, so the etched areas reveal the base glass beneath.

Bases and finishes

Patterns come on bases such as black opalescent or clear transparent, in gold, silver, and rainbow iridescent finishes. A black base makes the sheen read bold, while a clear base stays translucent and passes light. See each product for its base, finish, and size options.

Choose the correct COE

This glass is COE90. Use it with compatible COE90 glass so the pieces expand and contract together in the kiln. Want a pattern on a different glass, or your own design? See our Freestyle Etched option.

Firing notes

Results vary with the kiln, firing schedule, and base glass. Test a small piece first when the final look matters, since heat-work can change the surface. Firing schedules are guidelines, not guarantees.

Uses for etched iridescent glass

Etched iridescent is used in fused glass, jewelry, suncatchers, accents, and decorative panels where you want a soft, shifting sheen with etched detail.
