Molds shape glass in the kiln. Slumping molds let a flat sheet sink into a form such as a bowl or plate, draping molds shape glass over a raised form, and casting molds fill with frit to create solid glass pieces. This hub brings together the full mold range at Art Glass Supplies, with Creative Paradise, Bullseye, and Colour de Verre as the dominant brands.
Start from the finished piece you want. For plates and bowls made from sheet glass, choose a slumping or draping mold sized to your glass. For solid cast pieces such as jewelry, ornaments, and figures, choose a casting mold and fill it with frit. Molds themselves are not COE specific, so the same mold works with COE90 or COE96 glass; just never mix the two systems in one piece.
Ceramic molds need a separator such as kiln wash or a boron nitride spray before each firing so glass does not stick. Casting mold product pages include fill weight guidance so you know how much frit each design takes. Treat published firing schedules as starting points and test in your own kiln.
Molds are one part of the full art glass supply range at Art Glass Supplies, which also covers sheet glass, frit, kilns, and tools, so you can outfit a complete kiln forming studio from a single supplier.
