COE90 Etched Dichroic Glass

COE90 Etched Dichroic Glass takes dichroic-coated glass and adds an etched pattern, so the dichroic color shift follows a design across the sheet. The coated areas keep the metallic shimmer and color shift, while the etched areas reveal the base glass, giving you reflective color with built-in line and detail for fused glass, jewelry, and kiln-formed work.

What etched dichroic glass is

Dichroic glass has a thin metal-oxide coating that shows one color in reflection and often another in transmission, shifting with the light and the viewing angle. On these sheets a pattern is etched into that coating: the remaining coating carries the shift, and the etched areas show the glass beneath. The look traces back to optical coatings developed for aerospace.

Bases and colors

Patterns come on a black or a clear base, in a range of dichroic color combinations. A black base reads bold and high-contrast, while a clear base stays translucent and passes light for suncatchers and layered fused pieces. See each product for its base, color, and size options.

Choose the correct COE

Firing and capping

Dichroic results vary with the kiln, firing schedule, base glass, capping, and coating orientation. Many artists cap dichroic with clear to protect the coating and deepen the color; test a small piece first when the result matters. Firing schedules are guidelines, not guarantees.
