COE90 CBS Dichroic Solid Color glass carries a full-coverage CBS dichroic coating, so the whole sheet shows one rich, shifting dichroic color rather than a pattern. It is the most direct way to add reflective dichroic color to fused glass, jewelry, and kiln-formed work.
Dichroic glass shows one color in reflection and often another in transmission, shifting with the light and the viewing angle, thanks to thin metal-oxide layers on the surface. On these sheets the coating covers the glass evenly, and it sits on one side. The technology grew out of optical coatings developed for aerospace and is now a staple of fused glass color.
Each color comes on a black or a clear base. A black base makes the dichroic read bold and high-contrast, while a clear base stays more translucent and passes light, which suits suncatchers, windows, and layered fused pieces. The base you choose changes the character of the color.
This glass is COE90. Use it with compatible COE90 glass so everything expands and contracts together in the kiln. Want pattern and texture instead? See COE90 CBS Dichroic Patterned, or browse the full COE90 dichroic range.
Dichroic results vary with the kiln, firing schedule, base glass, capping, and coating orientation. Many artists cap dichroic with clear to protect the coating and deepen the color. Coating-side orientation changes the look, so test a small piece first when the result matters. Firing schedules are guidelines, not guarantees.
Solid dichroic is used in fused glass, jewelry, cabochons, pendants, accents, dishes, and decorative panels where you want clean, reflective dichroic color.
