COE90 Dichroic Glass

Dichroic glass carries an ultra thin metallic coating that reflects one color and transmits another, so the glass appears to change color as the light and viewing angle change. This category gathers the COE90 dichroic range at Art Glass Supplies, almost all of it from Coatings By Sandberg (CBS), the California coater whose name is synonymous with dichroic for fusing.

Choosing dichroic glass

Black-based dichroic shows the reflected color at full saturation, while clear-based dichroic lets light through for a more transparent, two-tone effect. Firing notes

Results vary with the kiln, schedule, base glass, and whether the coated side faces up or is capped. Many artists cap dichroic with clear glass to protect the coating and deepen the color shift, though uncapped and tack-fused approaches also work depending on the project. Test a small piece first when the final look matters.
