COE96 sheet glass is tested-compatible fusing glass made to a coefficient of expansion near 96, so glass built for the same tested-compatible system is made to fuse together in the kiln. Art Glass Supplies carries COE96 sheet from three American art glass manufacturers: Oceanside Glass and Tile, Wissmach Glass Company, and Youghiogheny Glass.

What's in this category at AGS

Oceanside anchors the range with Opalescent 3mm and Transparent 3mm sheets, the workhorse thicknesses for full fuse and slumped projects. Streakies blend two or more colors in a single sheet for skies, landscapes, and abstract backgrounds. OpalArt and Spirit sheets bring swirled, reactive looks, and Fusers Reserve covers small-batch, limited-run colors that rotate as they are released. Wissmach 96 contributes its own opalescent and transparent sheets, Youghiogheny adds hand-rolled character tested for the 96 system, and Thin 2mm sheets round out the range for lighter layered work.

Choosing a sheet

Use opalescent for solid, light-blocking color and transparent where you want light to pass through and colors to layer. Pick 3mm for standard single-layer work and the base of a fused stack, and thin 2mm for overlays, fine detail, and controlled thickness.

Fusing compatibility

Oceanside builds its glass to the tested-compatible System 96 standard, so its own sheets are made to fuse together as one family. Wissmach and Youghiogheny make their own COE96 glass to the same 96 coefficient, and matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a small test tile when you combine glass from different makers. Do not mix COE96 with COE90 glass in the same piece, since the two systems contract at different rates and can stress or crack on cooldown. Strongly reactive color combinations are also worth a small test tile. Pair these sheets with matching COE96 frit, stringers, and noodles to keep the whole project in one system.
