Etched Luminescent glass pairs genuine Wissmach Luminescent base glass with our own etched patterns, an Art Glass Supplies exclusive. The luminescent coating gives a soft, pearlescent rainbow shimmer that shifts with the light, and the etched pattern adds line and detail across that shimmer. Every piece is COE96 fusible glass, made to order in the base and size you choose.
Luminescent is a thin surface coating on the glass that produces a luminous, pearlescent rainbow shimmer in ordinary light. It is not glow in the dark and it is not photoluminescent; the color you see is a reflective shimmer that changes with the viewing angle and the lighting. Because each sheet is handmade, the shimmer varies slightly from piece to piece.
Our patterns are etched into the luminescent coating, so the coated areas keep the rainbow shimmer while the etched areas reveal the base glass beneath. This creates contrast and detail you can build into jewelry, suncatchers, and fused or stained glass work. We are the only source etching genuine Wissmach Luminescent glass, so these designs are unique to Art Glass Supplies.
Each pattern is offered on more than one luminescent base, commonly Black, Clear, and Opaque White Luminescent, selected at order time from the drop-downs on each product page. A black base reads bold and high-contrast, a clear base stays translucent and passes light for suncatchers and windows, and an opaque white base looks soft and luminous. Sizes vary by product. All luminescent glass is COE96; use it with compatible COE96 glass.
Luminescent glass is low-fire and must be reverse-fused. For the first fuse, fire the etched (coated) side down on fiber paper, or the coating can burn off. Do not cap the coated side with clear. It can be re-fired etched-side-up at a lower temperature, under 1400°F, and we keep ours at or below 1250°F. Firing schedules are guidelines, not guarantees, so test a small piece first when the final look matters. See the Wissmach Luminescent Love tip sheet, included on each product page, or visit ArtGlassSupplies.com/etched-tips for the full firing guide.
Etched luminescent pieces work well in jewelry, cabochons, suncatchers, focal cuts, accents, and fused or stained glass projects where you want a shifting rainbow shimmer with etched detail. For other glass or your own pattern, see our Freestyle Etched option, where you choose the glass and pattern yourself.
Choose a pattern, pick your base and size, and we make your etched luminescent glass to order.
