COE96 CBS Dichroic Patterned glass carries a CBS dichroic coating laid down in a pattern or texture across the sheet, so the metallic color shift follows lines, geometry, and motifs rather than covering the glass evenly. The result is reflective color with built-in design, ready to cut into fused glass, jewelry, and kiln-formed work.

What CBS dichroic patterned glass is

Dichroic glass shows one color in reflection and often another in transmission, shifting with the light and the viewing angle, because of thin metal-oxide layers on the surface. On these patterned sheets the coating is applied in a design, and the coating sits on one side of the glass. The look has roots in optical coatings developed for aerospace and is a favorite for adding color and movement to fused work.

Base glass and color

Patterns come on a black or a clear base. A black base makes the dichroic color read bold and high-contrast, while a clear base stays more translucent and passes light, which suits suncatchers, windows, and layered fused pieces. The pattern and base together decide the final look.

Choose the correct COE

This glass is COE96. Use it with compatible COE96 glass so everything expands and contracts together in the kiln. Prefer solid color instead of a pattern? See COE96 CBS Dichroic Solid Color, or browse the full COE96 dichroic range.

Firing and capping

Dichroic results vary with the kiln, firing schedule, base glass, capping, and coating orientation. Many artists cap dichroic with clear to protect the coating and deepen the color. Coating-side orientation changes the look, so test a small piece first when the result matters. Firing schedules are guidelines, not guarantees.

Uses for CBS dichroic patterned glass

Patterned dichroic is used in fused glass, jewelry, cabochons, pendants, accents, dishes, and decorative panels where you want reflective color with pattern and detail.
