Assorted Small Leaves

The Assorted Small Leaves mold from Colour de Verre casts five unique leaf shapes in a single firing. The reverse side of the mold is a built-in slumper. After the casting firing, a separate slump firing over this surface introduces a natural curve and dimension to the finished piece, making these well suited to fused glass work where lifelike botanical form matters. The five cavities vary in size and take approximately 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 grams of frit respectively.

The mold measures 4 inches by 7.75 inches by 1.25 inches. Colour de Verre designed these leaves to complement their Branches and Blossoms molds, so the shapes work as components in larger botanical compositions. Like all ceramic casting molds, this one is COE agnostic and reusable across many firings with proper prep.

What does the Assorted Small Leaves mold make?
It casts five different leaf shapes in one firing. The reverse side of the mold is a built-in slumper. After casting, a separate slump firing over this surface gives each finished piece a curved, dimensional form rather than a flat disc.

What COE glass can I use?
Any COE. Ceramic casting molds are COE agnostic, so this mold works with COE 96, COE 90, or other fusible glass. Use a firing schedule matched to the glass you are using.

How much glass does each leaf cavity take?
Colour de Verre lists approximately 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 grams for the five leaf cavities. Weigh your frit and test a first run when the result matters.

How do I prep the mold before firing?
Prime every cavity before each use with ZYP BN Lubricoat or Hotline Primo Primer, and let it dry completely before adding frit.

Working Notes

These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold.

• Prime all five cavities before every use. Colour de Verre recommends ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer or Hotline Primo Primer. Let the primer dry completely before adding frit.
• Fill each leaf cavity with frit to the approximate gram weights listed above. Weigh the frit for consistent results across cavities.
• Heat no faster than about 350 F (195 C) per hour.
• Colour de Verre suggests firing to 1325 F for COE 96 glass or 1350 F for COE 90 glass. Do not exceed about 1450 F (785 C).
• Add a controlled cool and an anneal soak appropriate for your glass type and thickness.
• Let the kiln cool fully before removing the cast leaves. Re-prime the mold before each subsequent firing.

• Heat rate: no faster than about 350 F (195 C) per hour
• Target temperature: 1325 F for COE 96 glass, 1350 F for COE 90 glass
• Maximum temperature: no more than about 1450 F (785 C)
• Cool: controlled cool with an anneal soak appropriate for your glass type and thickness
