Assorted Sports Murrini/ Millefiore COE90

This jar is a mix of four sports ball murrini designs, each slice revealing a tiny, detailed ball pattern that runs the full length of the glass cane it was cut from. Baseballs appear in white with curved red stitch lines. Soccer balls show the classic black and white segmented pattern. Basketballs display orange with black dividing lines. American footballs read as brown ovals with white lace markings. The mix also includes some plain green and dark filler slices that add color contrast among the ball motifs.

Murrini, also called millefiori, are small cross-section slices of patterned glass cane. Each individual slice is placed flat on the surface of a COE90 fused glass piece and fired so it bonds in as a decorative accent. A tack fuse stops short of full melting and leaves the slices slightly raised, keeping the ball imagery more three-dimensional and crisp. Test a small sample piece first and adjust your schedule to match your glass and kiln.

A full fuse schedule will melt the murrini flat and incorporate them smoothly into the glass surface, which works well when you want a flush, polished finish. A tack fuse holds the pieces at a lower peak and leaves them raised and more sculptural, which can keep the ball details sharper and more readable.

Always test a small sample before firing a full project. Firing schedules vary by kiln model, glass thickness, and the number of layers involved. Adjust ramp rates and hold times based on your own test results, and keep every component in the project the same COE to maintain thermal compatibility through firing and annealing.
