Turquoise is the one bright thread running through this Earth and Sky mix. Around it sit black, cream french vanilla, clear, a warm woodland brown and a flat deco grey, so the turquoise reads brighter than it would in any other company.
The brown is transparent and warms to amber where light passes along a piece. Grey and black do different jobs in the pile: the deco grey is soft and slightly chalky, while the black is dense and lands as a hard dark line. A bag runs about half an ounce of confetti sized stringer bits, short pieces cut from thin glass stringer. It is COE90 Bullseye glass and should meet only COE90 in the kiln.
What do the clear pieces do in a neutral mix like this? On a white or pale base they all but vanish and simply add surface texture. On black they show as fine bright lines, which is where they earn their place among the browns and greys.
The palette suits driftwood, shoreline and bare branch imagery, and a heavier scatter closes up into something closer to tweed than to speckle.
