The Bamboo Casting Mold from Colour de Verre casts a single textured panel with varied bamboo-segment lengths and deep surface detail. The finished panel measures approximately 10 inches by 6.75 inches (25.5 by 17 cm), while the mold itself is approximately 12 inches by 8.5 inches (30.5 by 21.5 cm). The panel works well as a serving piece, wall accent, or as a starting point for a second-fire project.
Like all ceramic casting molds, this one is COE agnostic. Load the mold with about 750 grams of frit, fire it, and the glass takes the shape of the bamboo texture. Colour de Verre suggests earthy tones such as amber, green, and yellow to echo natural bamboo, or bolder colors for a more graphic result. The mold is reusable across many firings when primed and cared for properly.
What does the Bamboo Casting Mold make? It casts a single textured panel approximately 10 inches by 6.75 inches, with the look of natural bamboo segments and varied lengths. The panel can be displayed as-is or used as a blank for a second firing.
What COE glass can I use in this mold? Any COE. Ceramic casting molds are COE agnostic, so the same mold works with COE96, COE90, or other fusible glass. Match your firing schedule to the glass you are using.
How much glass do I need? Colour de Verre lists a fill weight of about 750 grams. Weigh your frit before loading and test a first run when the result matters.
How do I prep the mold before casting? Prime the mold before every use with a boron nitride mold primer. Colour de Verre calls for ZYP BN Lubricoat or Hotline Primo Primer specifically. Let the primer dry completely before adding frit, and re-prime between firings.

Working Notes
These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold.
Prime the mold before every use with ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer or Hotline Primo Primer . Let it dry completely before adding frit.
Load the mold with approximately 750 grams of frit. Earthy tones such as amber, green, and yellow read well in the bamboo texture, though any compatible fusible glass works.
The mold is COE agnostic. Use a full fuse schedule matched to your glass, adjusting the anneal soak for your COE.
Re-prime the mold between firings and let the kiln cool fully before removing the cast panel.
Colour de Verre Suggested Firing Guidelines
This is a suggested starting point, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold and test a small run first.
Heat no faster than about 350 F (195 C) per hour.
Fire to no more than about 1450 F (785 C).
Add a controlled cool and an anneal soak for your glass: approximately 900 F for COE90, or approximately 950 F for COE96.
