Blue and Gold Moon Decal Sheet

This sheet carries a coordinated set of six circular moon designs in deep cobalt blue and metallic gold. The decals are arranged in two rows, each one depicting a distinct lunar phase or moon face. Phases represented include a slim gold crescent set against a blue field, a half-moon with the illuminated side sharply divided from the dark, a gibbous moon where most of the disc gleams in gold, and full-moon discs showing textured crater detail in contrasting blue and gold. One design layers a delicate botanical motif in gold over the face of a full moon, giving the set a second point of visual interest within the same palette. The gold has a distinctly metallic quality that sets these apart from standard ink-printed decals.

These are water-slide decals made to be applied to pre-fired glass and then fired to bond the image to the surface. Because they sit on top of the glass rather than fusing within a glass stack, they are compatible with kiln-formed art glass of any COE. To apply, soak a cut decal in room-temperature water until the image slides freely from its backing paper, position it on a clean, grease-free, pre-fired glass surface, smooth from the center outward to remove water and air bubbles, and allow the decal to dry completely before placing the piece in the kiln. Because of the metallic gold, fire toward the lower end of the temperature range noted below to preserve density.

What types of glass work with these decals?
Any pre-fired art glass. Because the decal bonds to the finished glass surface rather than fusing within the glass stack, a specific COE match is not required. The glass must be clean, fully annealed, and free of oils or surface residue before the decal is applied.

How many moon designs are on this sheet?
The sheet holds six individual moon decals, arranged in two rows. They can be cut apart with scissors and applied one at a time, so you can place a single moon on a small piece or use several together on a larger panel.

Do the metallic gold decals fire differently than standard decals?
No. These fire in the same 1240 to 1370 degree range as other single-color decals, kept toward the lower end to preserve the density of the metallic gold. Always test in your specific kiln before committing a finished piece.

Can I layer these decals with enamel powders or other surface colorants?
In general, yes. Decals can be applied alongside surface colorants on pre-fired glass, provided the base is smooth, clean, and free of loose materials. Fire at a temperature appropriate to the decals, and verify that any other treatments you use are rated for a similar range.

Working Notes

Apply decals only to a thoroughly cleaned, grease-free, pre-fired glass surface. Oils, fingerprints, or dust will prevent proper adhesion and may cause the decal to lift or crack during firing. After smoothing the decal into place, allow it to air dry completely before loading the kiln. Drying time varies with ambient humidity but should be at least several hours. Handle the dried decal carefully, as it is fragile before firing.

Suggested Firing Schedule (a suggested starting point, not a guarantee of results):
On fused glass this print fires to a final range of 1240 to 1370 degrees, held about 10 minutes and kept toward the lower end to preserve density. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees.
50 degrees per hour to 185 degrees, hold 20 minutes
150 degrees per hour to 300 degrees, hold 15 minutes
250 degrees per hour to 500 degrees, hold 15 minutes
600 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees, hold 10 minutes
Then to 1240 to 1370 degrees, hold about 10 minutes
Anneal for the thickness of your glass. Every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first.
