The Candle Holder 5 Inch Round mold from Colour de Verre is a two-piece ceramic frit casting mold that produces a single 5 inch circular tea light holder per firing. The mold measures 7.5 inches by 7.5 inches and stands 3 inches tall, with a glass capacity of 500 grams. It is one of three designs in Colour de Verre's candle holder series and is reusable across many firings.
To cast a holder, frit is loaded directly into the two-piece mold and fired so the glass takes the shape of the cavity. Colour de Verre suggests blending 5 to 10 percent fine transparent or opal frit with fine clear frit for soft colors that transmit candlelight, or mixing two or three medium dark frits with medium clear frit for a granite-like finish. The holder can also be enhanced with cast-in elements such as frit balls, shaped rods, stringers, or noodles, and pairs with Colour de Verre accent designs including Blossom, Small Leaves, and Oak Leaf.
What does the Candle Holder 5 Inch Round mold make? It casts a single 5 inch circular tea light holder per firing. The two-piece mold is designed to hold a standard tea light candle.
How much glass does this mold require? Colour de Verre lists a glass capacity of 500 grams per holder. Weigh your frit before loading and test a first run when consistency matters.
What COE glass can I use in this mold? Any COE. Ceramic casting molds are COE agnostic, so the same mold works with COE96, COE90, or other fusible glass. Match your firing schedule and anneal soak temperature to the glass you are using.
Can I decorate or embellish the casting? Yes. Colour de Verre recommends adding cast-in frit balls, shaped rods, stringers, or noodles for texture and interest. Their Blossom, Small Leaves, and Oak Leaf accent designs also work well as cast-in elements for a nature-inspired look.
How do I prepare the mold before each use? Prime all mold surfaces before every firing and let the primer dry completely before adding glass. Colour de Verre specifies ZYP BN Lubricoat or Hotline Primo Primer for this mold family.

Working Notes
These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold and test a small run first when the result matters.
Prime all mold surfaces with a boron nitride mold release before every use, and let the primer dry completely before adding glass. Colour de Verre specifies ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer or Hotline Primo Primer for this mold family.
Load about 500 grams of frit into the mold. Colour de Verre suggests blending 5 to 10 percent fine transparent or opal frit with fine clear frit for soft, translucent colors, or mixing two or three medium dark frits with medium clear frit for a granite-like finish.
The mold is COE agnostic. Use a casting schedule matched to your glass, adjusting the anneal soak for your COE.
Let the kiln cool fully before removing the cast piece. Re-prime the mold before each subsequent firing.
Colour de Verre Suggested Firing Guidelines
This is a suggested starting point, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold and test a small run first before committing to a full batch.
Heat no faster than about 350 F (195 C) per hour through the heating phases.
Fire to no more than about 1450 F (785 C) at the top of the schedule.
Hold at the top temperature briefly, then drop to an anneal soak suited to your glass: about 950 F for COE96 or about 900 F for COE90.
Cool slowly through the anneal range, then let the kiln reach room temperature before opening.
