Working Notes

These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold.

• Prime both cavities before every use with ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer or Hotline Primo Primer. Colour de Verre calls for priming before every firing. Let the primer dry completely before loading glass.
• Fill each cavity with 25 to 30 grams of frit. Mix colors across the cavity to shade or stripe the designs, or load a single color for a solid silhouette.
• The mold is COE agnostic. Match your firing schedule and anneal soak temperature to the glass COE you are using.
• To add embellishments, place dichroic beads, noodles, stringers, or twisted cane on the cooled cast pieces and run a second, cooler firing to fuse them in place.
• Let the kiln cool fully before removing the cast pieces. Re-coat the mold with primer before each subsequent firing.

Colour de Verre Suggested Firing Schedule

This is a suggested starting schedule based on Colour de Verre general guidance, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold and test a small run first.

• Prime the mold and let it dry completely before loading frit.
• Heat no faster than about 350 F (195 C) per hour.
• Fire to no more than about 1450 F (785 C).
• Follow a controlled cool into an anneal soak suited to your glass COE, then let the kiln cool fully before opening.
