Cat Textured Fusing Tile

The Cat Textured Fusing Tile from Creative Paradise is a 10 inch by 10 inch ceramic tile used in place of a standard kiln shelf tile during glass fusing. A glass sheet or fused blank is placed directly on the primed tile surface and fired; as the glass softens, it picks up the cat relief texture on its underside. Frit may also be fused on the tile surface to produce a patterned textured sheet.

The tile footprint is 10 inches by 10 inches with a 14.5 inch diagonal, accommodating glass up to that size. Apply a glass separator or kiln wash to the tile surface before each use following the separator manufacturer's instructions. Like all Creative Paradise ceramic kiln tiles, it is COE agnostic and reusable across many firings with proper prep.

What does the Cat Textured Fusing Tile do?
It imprints a cat relief texture onto the underside of glass during fusing. Place a prepared glass sheet or fused blank on the primed tile and fire; the softening glass presses into the cat texture by gravity and heat.

Can I fuse frit on this tile?
Yes. Frit may be fused directly on the primed tile surface to create a textured glass sheet with the cat pattern across it.

What COE glass works with this tile?
Any COE. The ceramic tile is COE agnostic, so it works with COE96, COE90, or other fusible glass. Match the firing schedule to your glass and adjust the anneal soak for your COE.

How do I prepare the tile before firing?
Apply a glass separator or kiln wash to the tile surface following the separator manufacturer's instructions, and let it cure fully before placing glass on top. Re coat as needed between firings.

Working Notes

These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow a fusing schedule suited to your glass and kiln.

• Prime the tile surface with a boron nitride mold primer such as ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer, or a kiln wash such as Hotline Primo Primer, following the separator manufacturer's instructions, and let it cure completely before placing glass on the tile.
• Place a glass sheet or fused blank directly on the primed tile surface. The cat texture will imprint on the underside of the glass as it softens and fuses.
• Frit may also be fused on the tile surface to produce a patterned sheet with the cat texture. The manufacturer suggests frit in a uniform layer for this approach.
• The tile is COE agnostic. Use a fusing schedule matched to your glass, adjusting the final anneal soak for your COE.
• Let the kiln cool fully before removing the glass. Re coat the tile with primer or kiln wash as needed between firings.

This is a suggested COE96 starting schedule, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Test a small run and adjust the schedule for your glass and kiln.

Full Fuse (COE96), double layer with frit:

*Segment 4 is the anneal soak at 950 F for COE96. If using COE90, adjust this temperature to 900 F.
