Balloons 3 carries the same family of rounded floating forms but in its own arrangement, circular shapes set across the glass at a different scale and spacing than its siblings. The clustered orbs drift over the surface with airy gaps between them.
On a thin black base the coating stays vivid and high contrast, the rounded forms standing clear against the dark. The dichroic coating turns color as the angle and light change, so the floating shapes drift between tones and pick up new casts the moment you tilt the piece.
Test a small piece first, since each kiln and setup behaves differently.

Working Notes
Firing Guidelines and Helpful Tips
Dichroic results vary by kiln, firing schedule, base glass, capping, layering, and coating orientation. These are guidelines, not guarantees. Follow the glass and coating manufacturer's guidance, and test a small piece first when the final look matters.
- Coating side orientation and clear capping can each change the final look, so test first when the result matters.
- Appearance may vary after firing, and the metallic color shift can read differently by viewing angle and lighting.
- Cut and handle the coated surface with care.
What is CBS Dichroic glass?
Dichroic glass uses thin metal oxide layers vacuum-deposited onto a glass surface to create a metallic coating that shifts color with light and viewing angle. CBS applies the coating to one side of a base glass. On CBS patterned products, sections of that coating are away to leave the pattern.
What does the Balloons 3 pattern look like up close?
Clustered round forms drift over the glass with airy negative space between them. The arrangement is open and patterned, so each cut captures a different distribution of orbs and gaps rather than a repeating grid.
Is this COE90?
Available in COE90.
Which base works best with this pattern?
The clustered orbs sit over wide gaps, so a darker base frames the dichroic shimmer and lets the round forms read sharp against the field. Final pairing is yours to pick from the base drop-down.
How does this pattern cut for jewelry or cabochons?
Each small cut lands on a different cluster, so two cabochons from the same sheet rarely look alike. Plan cuts around individual orbs for focal jewelry, or take wider sections to keep the drifting arrangement visible in cabochons and statement pieces.
Should I test before firing or cap with clear?
Test a small piece first when the final look matters, kiln, firing schedule, and capping each shift the result. Many artists cap dichroic with clear; the cap softens the surface and changes how the color shift reads at different angles.
