The Stell Gears pattern repeats interlocking cogwheels edge to edge, a tight mechanical grid of teeth and round centers. Over this layout the Silver coating reads bright and neutral, picking out the rim of every gear and the spaces between them. Offered on clear and black base glass, the pattern shows the gear shapes differently depending on which base you pick. This pattern is by artist Chris Stell.
Silver is the most reflective of the dichroic coatings, and on one side of the glass it behaves like a mirror that tints as you turn it. The gears catch cool silver at most angles and slide toward faint blue or champagne hints when tilted. A black base makes the silver gears stand out sharply, while a clear base lets light move through the open gaps.
