This sheet holds around twenty individual hummingbird decals rendered in a naturalistic, ornithological illustration style. The birds appear in a variety of poses and angles: some hover with wings spread mid-beat, others tuck into steep dives, and several perch or feed along delicate flowering stems. Colors span deep iridescent greens, rich rufous-orange tones, stark black-and-white contrasts, and vivid throat patches in red and violet, capturing the plumage diversity found across many hummingbird species. Each decal shows fine feather detail, slender elongated bills, and the distinctive proportions that make hummingbirds instantly recognizable.
These are water-slide fusible glass decals. Apply each to clean, pre-fired glass by soaking it briefly in water, sliding it into position, and gently pressing out trapped water and air. After the piece dries completely, it goes into the kiln, where the decal fires permanently onto the glass. Because the decal sits on the surface rather than fusing as a compatible glass layer, no COE matching is needed and it works with glass of any COE.
How do I apply a water-slide decal from this sheet? Cut the decal away from the sheet and soak it in clean, room-temperature water for 30 to 60 seconds until it slides freely from its backing paper. Slide it into position on clean, dry, pre-fired glass, then smooth water and air outward from the center with a soft squeegee or fingertip. Let the piece dry completely before firing.
What glass color gives the best results? These decals fire somewhat transparent, so they show most clearly on white or very light glass. On medium to dark base glass the colors lose strength and may appear muted. Clear glass is workable, but the hummingbird colors read more subtly than on an opaque white ground.
Do these decals work with the COE glass I already have? Yes. Because the decal fires onto the surface of pre-fired glass rather than fusing as a compatible glass layer, no COE matching is needed. Clean, fully pre-fired glass of any COE accepts these decals.
How many decals come on a single sheet? The sheet holds around twenty hummingbird decals. The birds vary in size and orientation, so you can cut them apart and place each one independently.
Specifications
SKU: 164222 Sheet size: 4 x 5.25 inches Sold as a single printed decal sheet Decal count: around twenty hummingbird decals Firing range: 1275 to 1380 degrees Works with any COE glass Working Notes
Apply decals only to clean, pre-fired glass. Oils, dust, or fingerprints can interfere with adhesion. Keep each decal flat while it dries to prevent edge lifting, and fire promptly after drying. For several decals on one piece, work one at a time and let each dry before adding the next. These fire somewhat transparent and show best on white or very light glass.
Suggested Firing Schedule (a starting point only, not a guarantee of results; every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass): Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees. Ramp 50 degrees per hour to 185 degrees, hold 20 minutes. Ramp 150 degrees per hour to 300 degrees, hold 15 minutes. Ramp 250 degrees per hour to 500 degrees, hold 15 minutes. Ramp 600 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees, hold 10 minutes. Then ramp to a final 1275 to 1380 degrees, held about 10 minutes. These full-color prints read best on white or light glass and lose strength on medium to dark glass. Anneal for the thickness of your glass.
