Apply decals only to clean, pre-fired glass. Oils, fingerprints, or kiln wash residue on the glass surface can prevent the decal from seating properly, so wipe the piece with a lint-free cloth before you begin. Individual moths can be cut apart from the sheet and used one at a time, which is helpful for small pieces or when precise placement matters. These color decals can fire somewhat transparent on clear glass, so colors may read differently on clear versus opaque or colored bases. Plan your glass selection accordingly and test before committing a finished piece.
Suggested Firing Schedule (a suggested starting point only, not a guarantee of results; every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass): Firing range 1275 to 1380 degrees F. These are full-color prints that fire semi-translucent, so they read best on white or light glass and lose strength on medium to dark glass. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees. 50 degrees per hour to 185 degrees, hold 20 minutes. 150 degrees per hour to 300 degrees, hold 15 minutes. 250 degrees per hour to 500 degrees, hold 15 minutes. 600 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees, hold 10 minutes. Then to 1275 to 1380 degrees, hold about 10 minutes. Anneal for the thickness of your glass.
