Egyptian Heiroglyph Decal Sheet

This decal sheet holds a large assortment of Egyptian hieroglyph motifs rendered as crisp black line-art silhouettes drawn from ancient Egyptian symbolic tradition. The sheet includes many recognizable characters: birds shown in different stances, from large-winged birds of prey to wading birds and owls; four-legged animals such as oxen, goats, and canines, along with a hare and an elephant; the Eye of Horus, which appears more than once at varying scales; and standing human or deity figures. These are water-slide fusible glass decals applied to the surface of pre-fired glass and bonded during a kiln firing. Soak a decal in room-temperature water until it slides free of its backing, position it on clean fired glass, smooth out water and air pockets with a soft tool, let the piece dry fully, then fire. Because the decal bonds to the glass surface rather than fusing as a layer, no COE matching is required and it works on any pre-fired glass.

What symbols are included?

How do I apply a water-slide decal?
Begin with clean, pre-fired glass free of oil, dust, and kiln wash residue. Soak the decal for roughly 30 to 60 seconds until it releases from its backing. Slide it into position, then use a soft squeegee or fingertip to smooth from the center outward, removing water and air bubbles. Allow the piece to dry completely before loading the kiln, then fire per the schedule below.

Do I need to match COE?
No. These decals are applied to an already-fired glass surface and bond during a later firing rather than fusing as a layer. No COE matching is required, and they work with any glass you already use.

Working Notes

Apply decals only to a clean, pre-fired glass surface. Oil, fingerprints, dust, or kiln wash residue can prevent proper adhesion, so wipe the surface with a clean, lint-free cloth before placing the decal. Allow the piece to dry completely before loading your kiln. Because every kiln fires differently, treat the schedule below as a starting point, test a small piece first, and anneal for the full thickness of your glass.

Suggested Firing Schedule (a starting point only, not a guarantee of results): This is a single-color decal, so fire toward the lower end of its range to keep the image dense. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees F and fire slowly below 500 degrees F. Every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass.
50 degrees per hour to 185 degrees F, hold 20 min.
150 degrees per hour to 300 degrees F, hold 15 min.
250 degrees per hour to 500 degrees F, hold 15 min.
600 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees F, hold 10 min.
Then to 1240 to 1370 degrees F, hold about 10 min.
Anneal for the thickness of your glass.
