Fiddlehead Ferns Decal Sheet

This sheet presents fiddlehead fern designs in teal, golden yellow, and white. Tall, sinuous stems curl into tightly wound spiral heads across the top of the sheet, each spiral packed with smaller scrolling curl patterns that capture the classic coiled shape of a young fern frond just beginning to open. Along the bottom, additional coiled spiral motifs in the same teal, gold, and white palette echo the design. The balanced layout makes placement planning straightforward.

These are water-slide decals that fire onto the surface of pre-fired glass. Because the decal bonds to the glass surface rather than fusing as a glass layer, it works with any COE glass. Soak the decal briefly in water, slide it off its backing onto clean pre-fired glass, smooth out any bubbles and water, allow it to dry completely, and then fire.

How do I apply a water-slide decal?
Soak the decal in water for about 30 to 60 seconds until it slides freely from its backing paper. Slide it onto clean, dry, pre-fired glass, smooth it flat from the center outward, and let it dry completely before placing the piece in the kiln.

Can I fire these alongside other decals on the same piece?
Yes. Multiple decals can be applied to a single piece, provided each one is fully dried before the piece goes into the kiln.

Working Notes

Apply each decal to clean, dry, pre-fired glass. Smooth out all bubbles and water from beneath the decal and allow it to dry completely before firing. These decals fire in a suggested range of roughly 1240 to 1370 degrees, held about 10 minutes and kept toward the lower end to preserve the density of the print.

Every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees.
50 degrees per hour to 185 degrees, hold 20 min.
150 degrees per hour to 300 degrees, hold 15 min.
250 degrees per hour to 500 degrees, hold 15 min.
600 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees, hold 10 min.
Then to 1240 to 1370 degrees, hold about 10 min.
Anneal for the thickness of your glass.
