The Green Algae Color Decal Sheet carries a set of circular, radially symmetrical illustrations that evoke microscopic algae viewed through a scientific lens. Each decal depicts a distinct organism form in layered shades of green with yellow-gold structure and small red and orange interior detailing. The designs range from compact star-shaped rosettes and tight geometric clusters to larger disc-like forms with radiating structures and delicate spiny outer edges. Arranged across a single 5.25 x 4 inch sheet, the decals vary widely in scale, giving you a range of sizes to work into one composition.
These are water-slide fusible glass decals designed for application to pre-fired glass. Soak a decal briefly in warm water until it releases from the paper backing, slide it into position on clean, dry glass, smooth out water and air bubbles with a soft tool, then allow the piece to dry completely before loading the kiln. Because the decal sits on the glass surface rather than fusing as a compatible glass layer, these decals work with any COE glass system.
How do I apply a decal to my glass? Soak the decal in warm water for about 30 seconds until it slides freely from the backing paper. Place it on a clean, pre-fired glass surface and use a soft squeegee or fingertip to smooth out water and air bubbles, working from the center outward. Allow the piece to dry fully before loading it into the kiln.
What base glass color works best with these decals? These color decals fire somewhat transparent on clear glass and show their strongest color on white or very light base glass. On medium to dark glass, the greens and golds lose visual strength, so a pale base is recommended for the most consistent result.
Do these require a specific COE glass? No. These decals are applied to already-fired glass and remain on the surface after firing, so there is no COE compatibility requirement. They work with any glass system you already use.
How many decals are on the sheet? Each sheet contains 13 green algae illustration decals in a range of sizes, all printed on one 5.25 x 4 inch sheet.
Specifications
SKU: 155478 Sheet size: 5.25 x 4 inches Decal count: 13 Design: green and yellow-gold radial algae illustrations Firing range: 1275 to 1380 degrees Working Notes
Apply decals only to pre-fired, clean glass. Oils, dust, or surface residue will prevent proper adhesion, so wipe the glass thoroughly before starting. Handle placed decals carefully to avoid shifting while they dry. These color decals perform best on white or pale base glass. On clear glass the design fires somewhat transparent, and on medium to dark glass the colors diminish noticeably. Test a sample piece in your own kiln before committing to a full project run, since every kiln fires differently.
Suggested Firing Schedule (a suggested starting point, not a guarantee of results; test first and anneal for the thickness of your glass): On fused glass this full-color print fires to a final range of 1275 to 1380 degrees, held about 10 minutes. Full-color prints are semi-translucent, so they read best on white or light glass and lose strength on medium to dark glass. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees. 50 degrees per hour to 185 degrees, hold 20 min 150 degrees per hour to 300 degrees, hold 15 min 250 degrees per hour to 500 degrees, hold 15 min 600 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees, hold 10 min Then to 1275 to 1380 degrees, hold about 10 min Anneal for the thickness of the glass.
