To use them, soak a cut decal in water until it releases from its paper backing, slide it into position on a clean glass surface, smooth out water and air bubbles with a soft squeegee or damp fingertip, let the piece dry completely, then fire in your kiln. Because the decal bonds to the glass surface rather than fusing as a glass layer, it is compatible with any COE glass. The fired result is a sharp, detailed image that adds seasonal character to bowls, plates, tiles, panels, and other fused work.

Work on a clean, grease-free glass surface. Cut individual decals from the sheet before soaking to make placement easier and to avoid disturbing neighboring motifs. After smoothing each decal, let the piece sit until completely dry before firing. A small fan can speed drying, but avoid directing concentrated heat at the decal before it is in the kiln. Test with a scrap piece first to confirm placement and observe how the motifs fire in your specific kiln.
Suggested Firing Schedule (a suggested starting point only, not a guarantee of results; every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass): Firing range 1240 to 1370 degrees F, kept toward the lower end to keep the color dense. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees. 50 degrees per hour to 185 degrees, hold 20 minutes. 150 degrees per hour to 300 degrees, hold 15 minutes. 250 degrees per hour to 500 degrees, hold 15 minutes. 600 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees, hold 10 minutes. Then to 1240 to 1370 degrees, hold about 10 minutes. Anneal for the thickness of your glass.
