The Keys Decal Sheet features four large antique-style key illustrations printed in deep cobalt blue on a white ground, drawn in a vintage engraving style. The four designs differ in bow shape and ornamentation: a classic skeleton key with a plain round bow, a key with an ornate scrolling filigree bow, a key with a broad oval bow bearing engraved lettering, and a slender key with a decorative fleur-de-lis bit. The single deep blue tone gives the set a cohesive antique-illustration character.
These are water-slide fusible glass decals, sold as a printed sheet measuring 5.25 x 4 inches with four key designs. To use, cut the design you want from the dry sheet, soak it briefly in room-temperature water until it loosens from its backing paper, slide it onto clean pre-fired glass, smooth out trapped water and air from the center outward, and allow the piece to dry completely before firing. Because the decal bonds to the surface of already-fired glass rather than fusing as a compatible layer, no COE matching is required.
What glass can I apply these decals to? Any glass that has been fully fired and cooled. COE compatibility is not a factor because the decal adheres to the surface rather than fusing as a layer. The base glass must be clean and free of kiln wash residue, oils, and fingerprints before you apply the decal.
How do I apply a water-slide decal? Cut the individual image from the sheet while it is dry. Soak the cut piece in room-temperature water for about 30 seconds until the film slides free of its backing. Position it on your clean, dry glass and use a soft squeegee or fingertip to press out trapped water and air from the center toward the edges. Allow the piece to dry fully, several hours or overnight, before firing.
Can I trim the decals before use? Yes. Use scissors or a craft knife to cut individual key images from the sheet before soaking. Cutting after the decal is wet risks tearing the film, so always trim while the sheet is dry.

Prepare your base glass carefully before applying any decal. Clean the fired, cooled surface with isopropyl alcohol to remove oils, fingerprints, and kiln wash residue, any of which can prevent the decal from bonding and cause lifting or bubbling during firing. Apply the decal on a stable, flat surface and allow a full dry time in a warm, low-humidity space before firing. Test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass.
Suggested Firing Schedule (a suggested starting point only, not a guarantee of results): Final firing temperature is roughly 1240 to 1370 degrees, held about 10 minutes and kept toward the lower end to preserve density. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees. 50 DPH to 185 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 20 min. 150 DPH to 300 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 15 min. 250 DPH to 500 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 15 min. 600 DPH to 1000 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 10 min. Then advance to 1240 to 1370 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 10 min. Anneal for the thickness of your glass. Every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first.
