Native Symbols Decals Sheet

This 5.25 by 4 inch sheet holds petroglyph-inspired designs drawn from Native American rock-art imagery. Most of the motifs are printed in warm metallic gold and copper foil, while a row of designs along the bottom appears in solid black and black-and-white. The imagery includes bears, deer, bison, turtles, lizards, birds with a spreading-winged thunderbird form, flute-playing figures, handprints, dancing human figures, and assorted geometric tribal symbols. All are rendered as flat silhouettes closely referencing ancient carved rock art and arranged in rows across the sheet.

These are water-slide decals intended to be applied to the surface of pre-fired glass and fired in a kiln. Because they bond to the glass surface rather than fusing as a compatible glass layer, they work with any COE glass. Soak a decal in room-temperature water until the paper backing releases, slide the design onto a clean pre-fired surface, smooth out trapped water and bubbles with a soft tool, let it dry fully, then fire according to the schedule in Working Notes.

What is on the sheet?
The sheet holds 25 individual rock-art designs on a single 5.25 by 4 inch sheet. The compact motifs suit jewelry, small tiles, ornaments, and accent detail on larger fused pieces.

Do these decals require a specific COE glass?
No. Because the decal fires onto the surface of pre-fired glass rather than bonding as a fused glass layer, it is compatible with any COE glass system, including 90, 96, float, or other.

Are the designs metallic, and does that change how I fire them?
Most of the designs are printed in a metallic gold and copper finish, with some in solid black. All fire in the same suggested range, roughly 1240 to 1370 degrees, held about 10 minutes and kept toward the lower end to preserve the density of the print. The suggested firing schedule in Working Notes gives the full ramp.

Can I use these on a piece that has already been slumped?
Yes. Decals are applied to pre-fired glass, so any piece that has completed its fusing and shaping cycles is a suitable candidate, as long as the surface is clean and free of oils, kiln wash residue, or fingerprints.

Working Notes

Apply each decal to a clean, pre-fired glass surface. Soak in room-temperature water until the paper backing slides free, position the design, smooth out trapped water and bubbles with a soft squeegee or finger, and let the decal dry completely before loading the kiln. These decals are compatible with any COE glass. Because every kiln fires differently, the schedule below is a manufacturer's suggested starting point, not a guarantee of results. Test a small piece first, adjust ramp rates or peak temperature for your specific kiln and glass thickness, and always anneal for the thickness of your glass.

Suggested Firing Schedule (a starting point only, not a guarantee of results): Fire to roughly 1240 to 1370 degrees F, held about 10 minutes, keeping toward the lower end to preserve the density of the print. Every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees.
50 degrees per hour to 185 degrees, hold 20 min.
150 degrees per hour to 300 degrees, hold 15 min.
250 degrees per hour to 500 degrees, hold 15 min.
600 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees, hold 10 min.
Then to 1240 to 1370 degrees, hold about 10 min.
Anneal for the thickness of your glass.
