Oceanside Chambray Opalescent frit (style 079-96) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible crushed glass, a dusty blue opal for shading, blending, and casting.
Appearance
A soft muted periwinkle opal like faded denim. The crushed granules read as an even, chalky blue with a gentle satin surface, cool and quiet rather than bright.
Working notes
Use it to shade, blend, and build a solid cool tone. As an opal it keeps its color over both light and dark backing, and a full fuse melts it into a smooth even layer.
Reactions
This is a copper-bearing color, rated low on the System 96 reactive scale. Fused against a sulfur-bearing glass it can develop a reaction line or a shift in color where the two meet, an effect fusers use on purpose for shading and depth. Next to non-reactive colors it stays true. See the System 96 Reactive Color Chart for the colors it reacts with.
Using the frit
Frit comes in grades from fine to coarse: finer for shading and blending, coarser for texture, casting, and filling. Sift it over a base, pack it into a mold, or mix grades to build depth.
Fusing and compatibility
Fuses cleanly with any 96 COE product in the System 96 family. With glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a small test tile first.
