Oceanside Hydrangea Opalescent (style 2301-96) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible frit, a soft periwinkle blue crushed glass for shading and casting.
Appearance
Crushed granules in a soft periwinkle blue with a violet cast, the tone of a hydrangea bloom. Opalescent and opaque, an even blue-purple across the grade, with small angular chips and mixed broken faces.
Working notes
Frit holds the same solid color as the sheet rather than a transparent wash. A thin scatter reads as pale speckle; a heavier layer packs into an even periwinkle field. A full fuse melts the grains smooth; a tack fuse leaves texture.
Reactions
This color is not on the System 96 reactive list, so it sits next to other colors without forming a reaction line. See the System 96 Reactive Color Chart for the colors that do react.
Using the frit
It comes in grades from fine powder to coarse chunks: finer for smooth shading and blending, coarser for texture and casting. Sift it over a base, pack it into open areas, or mix grades for depth.
Fusing and compatibility
Tested compatible with any other 96 COE glass in the System 96 family. With glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a test tile first.
