Oceanside Payne's Gray Opalescent (style OGT60078F) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible sheet glass, a muted slate blue-gray in a double-rolled opal.
Appearance
A soft slate blue-gray that reads as a solid dusky tone rather than a see-through wash. Light rests on the surface instead of passing through, so the color stays even and quiet across the sheet, and the double-rolled surface carries a faint machine-rolled variation that adds subtle depth without a strong texture.
Working notes
As an opal, Payne's Gray works as a solid field of color and holds its tone whether it is used as a base layer or as accent pieces. A full fuse smooths the double-rolled surface to a glossy finish, while a tack fuse keeps more of the rolled surface and the piece edges visible. It does not shift over light or dark backing, which makes it dependable for consistent gray tones.
Reactions
This is a copper-bearing color, rated low on the System 96 reactive scale. Fused against a sulfur-bearing glass it can develop a reaction line or a shift in color where the two meet, an effect fusers use on purpose for shading and depth. Next to non-reactive colors it stays true. See the System 96 Reactive Color Chart for the colors it reacts with.
Format and sizes
Sold as 3mm double-rolled sheet glass. Choose your size from the options on this page.
Fusing and compatibility
Tested compatible with other System 96 glass, so it fuses cleanly with any 96 COE product in the System 96 family. When you combine it with glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a small test tile first.
