Pewter Opalescent dots are a medium gray with a cool cast and a mottled, slightly cloudy surface; lighter and darker patches cross many of the faces, so the pile looks like river stones rather than a flat gray. Some slices show a faint translucency at the edge.
Sliced from 6 mm cane at about 2 to 3 mm thick, rated COE96, these dots belong with COE96 glass only. The mottling survives firing and gives every dot a slightly different face. Use them as river stones on a blue base, as gravel on a path, as a shark or elephant on a children's plate, or as the dark neutral in a black, white and gray border.
How does pewter read on a base? Opaque with visible mottling that survives firing, so a field of these dots has natural variation. On white it reads as a mid gray; on black it is a lighter, silvery gray. It works for stones, gravel, metal and silver effects, and elephant and shark gray.
