Pillow Pendants Casting Mold

The Pillow Pendants mold from Colour de Verre casts five glass pendants in two shapes from a single firing. Three rectangular cavities produce finished pieces at 2.0 inches, 1.75 inches, and 1.5 inches in length. Two square cavities produce finished pieces at 1.5 inches and 1.25 inches. The mold is precision-engineered so cast pendants require little to no cold work such as grinding or polishing after firing.

The mold measures 6.75 inches by 5 inches by 1 inch. Colour de Verre lists fill weights from 10 grams for the smallest square cavity up to 24 grams for the largest rectangular cavity, letting you plan frit use precisely before loading. What are the finished pendants suited for?

What COE glass can I use?
Any COE. Ceramic casting molds are COE agnostic, so the same mold works with COE96, COE90, or other fusible glass. Match your firing schedule to the glass you are using.

Do the finished pendants need cold work?
Colour de Verre notes that the precision engineering of this mold means cast pieces require little to no cold work such as grinding or polishing.

Working Notes

These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow a casting schedule suited to your glass and kiln.

• Prime all cavities before every firing with a boron nitride mold primer. Colour de Verre recommends ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer or Hotline Primo Primer. Let the primer dry fully before adding glass so pieces release cleanly.
• Fill each cavity with frit matched to the fill weights listed above. Weigh your glass before loading to stay close to the suggested amounts.
• The mold is COE agnostic. Use a firing schedule matched to your specific fusible glass.
• Let the kiln cool fully before removing cast pendants. Re-prime the mold before every subsequent firing.

Suggested Firing Schedule (Colour de Verre General Guidance)

This is a suggested starting point, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold and test a small run first.

• Heat no faster than about 350 F (195 C) per hour.
• Fire to no more than about 1450 F (785 C).
• After reaching the top temperature, drop to the annealing temperature appropriate for your glass and hold for a soak, then cool in a controlled way to room temperature.
