Round Draping Mold

The Round Draping Mold from Creative Paradise is a ceramic form that shapes a pre-made glass blank into a round draped dish in a single firing. The mold measures 4.25 inches in diameter and stands 2.75 inches tall. A glass blank is centered over the form, then fired so the softening glass drapes down over the contours and takes the rounded shape.

Like all ceramic slumping and draping molds, this one is COE agnostic. The same form works with COE96, COE90, or any other compatible fusible glass. It is reusable across many firings when the surface is primed and the mold is cared for properly.

What COE glass can I use with this mold?
Any COE. Ceramic draping molds are COE agnostic, so the same form works with COE96, COE90, or other fusible glass. Match your firing schedule to the glass you are using.

How do I use this draping mold?
Center a pre-fused blank or a double layer of sheet glass over the primed form. As the kiln heats, the glass softens and gravity pulls it down over the mold into the round draped shape. The suggested firing schedule below is based on a double layer of COE96 glass.

How do I prep the mold before draping?
Coat the mold surface with a kiln shelf primer such as a boron nitride spray (for example ZYP) or a kiln wash such as Hotline Primo Primer, and let it dry completely before placing glass. Re-coat the mold with primer as needed between firings.

Working Notes

These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow a draping schedule suited to your glass and kiln.

• Prime the mold surface with a boron nitride mold primer such as ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer, or a kiln wash, and let it dry completely before placing glass so the glass does not stick.
• Center a pre-fused blank or a double layer of sheet glass over the top of the form. The glass softens and drapes down over the mold as the kiln heats.
• The mold is COE agnostic. Use a draping schedule matched to your glass, adjusting the final anneal soak for your COE.
• Let the kiln cool fully before removing the draped piece. Re-coat the mold with primer as needed between firings.
• The Slide Hi Temp brand separator is not recommended with these molds.

Creative Paradise Suggested Firing Schedule

This is a suggested COE96 starting schedule, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Test a small run and adjust the schedule for your glass and kiln.

Drape (COE96): suggested for a double layer of COE96 glass.

*Segment 3 is the anneal soak at 950 F for COE96. If using COE90, adjust this temperature to 900 F.
