Sea Turtle Murrini/ Millefiore COE96

Each patterned slice shows a sea turtle in deep forest green against a soft, translucent mint green background. On larger slices the rounded shell, body, and flippers read clearly; on smaller diameters the turtle appears as a more abstract, compact green shape in the pale ground. The two-tone green has a calm, underwater character, and a few side-cut pieces in the mix read as striped pale green.

Murrini, also called millefiore, are small cross-section slices of patterned glass cane. Place individual slices directly on the surface of a COE96 fused glass piece and fire them in, adding pictorial accents to jewelry, pendants, plates, dishes, suncatchers, and ornaments.

What glass do I need to use with these murrini?
These are COE96 murrini and must be used with glass of the same COE. Glass with a different expansion rate contracts at a different pace during firing and cooling, which can cause stress fractures.

Sold as a jar of assorted slices. Sizes and counts vary from pack to pack, so each jar contains its own mix of larger and smaller turtles.

How do I use these in a fused glass project?
Arrange individual slices face-up on the surface of your prepared COE96 base glass and fire them in. They are surface accents, not a casting medium.

Working Notes

How far you take the firing sets the final look. A full fuse integrates each slice smoothly so the turtle sits level with the surrounding glass. A tack fuse preserves more of the raised profile for surface texture and a slightly three-dimensional motif.

Fire a small test piece before committing to a full project. Results depend on your kiln, shelf position, glass thickness, and the COE96 glass you are working with, so use your test to dial in a schedule.
