Seahorses Decal Sheet

This sheet is filled with detailed seahorse designs rendered in fine white line work against a solid black ground, in the manner of antique naturalist engraving. Each seahorse shows the articulated body ridges, cupped pectoral fin, coiling tail, and long tapered snout. More than a dozen designs are arranged across the sheet in a range of sizes and orientations, giving you large focal-point seahorses along with small accent pieces from a single sheet.

These are water-slide decals that fire onto the surface of pre-fired glass. Because they sit on top rather than fusing as a glass layer, they work with any COE glass. Soak an individual decal until it slides freely off its backing, position it on clean, dry pre-fired glass, smooth out any water and air with a soft tool, allow the piece to dry thoroughly, then fire.

What glass projects can I use these on?
Any pre-fired glass surface accepts these decals: fused tiles, plates, bowls, pendants, and wall panels. Because the decal is a surface treatment on already-fired glass, COE compatibility is not a concern.

Can I use different sizes from the same sheet in one firing?
Yes. With a mix of larger and smaller seahorses, you can place a large design as a centerpiece and add smaller ones as accents. Apply all the decals for a piece at once, let the glass dry completely, and fire once.

How should I prepare the glass before applying a decal?
Clean the pre-fired glass with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry fully. Oils, fingerprints, or kiln wash residue can prevent proper bonding during firing. Handle the cleaned glass by its edges before the decal goes on.

Working Notes

Apply decals only to clean, fully pre-fired glass. Allow each decal to dry fully after application, ideally several hours or overnight, before loading the kiln, since residual moisture during the early ramp can cause the decal to bubble or shift. A gentle initial ramp with a soak near 185 degrees drives off remaining moisture before the temperature climbs. Every kiln fires differently, so test on a small sample first and anneal for the thickness of your glass.

Suggested Firing Schedule (a suggested starting point only, not a guarantee of results): Final firing temperature is roughly 1240 to 1370 degrees, held about 10 minutes and kept toward the lower end to preserve density. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees.
50 DPH to 185 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 20 min.
150 DPH to 300 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 15 min.
250 DPH to 500 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 15 min.
600 DPH to 1000 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 10 min.
Then advance to 1240 to 1370 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 10 min.
Anneal for the thickness of your glass. Every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first.
