The Slab Server mold from Colour de Verre casts one large glass slab measuring 5 x 10 inches (12.5 x 25 cm), with an integrated foot that gives the finished piece a raised presentation. The mold offers a practical canvas for collaging, reactive glass effects, and kiln carving.
The mold itself measures approximately 12.5 x 7.5 x 2 inches (32 x 19 x 5 cm). Fill the cavity with sheet glass layers, billet pieces, frit, or a combination, using 875 to 1100 grams of glass per casting. Like all ceramic casting molds, it is COE agnostic and reusable across many firings when primed and cared for properly.
What does the Slab Server mold make? It casts one flat glass slab measuring 5 x 10 inches (12.5 x 25 cm) with an integrated foot for a raised, finished look. The format suits collaging, reactive glass work, and kiln carving projects.
What fill materials can I use? You can fill the cavity with sheet glass layers, billet pieces, frit, or any combination of these. The flexibility in fill materials lets you blend colors and textures in a single casting.
How much glass do I need per casting? Colour de Verre recommends 875 to 1100 grams per casting. Weigh your glass before loading, and test a first run when the result matters, since fill weight affects the final thickness.
What COE glass can I use, and how do I prep the mold? Any COE works, since the mold is COE agnostic. Prime the cavity before every use with a mold primer and let it dry completely before adding glass.

Working Notes
These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold, test a small run first when the result matters, and use a casting schedule suited to your glass and kiln.
Prime the mold cavity before every use with ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer or Hotline Primo Primer , and let it dry completely before adding glass so the casting releases cleanly.
Fill the cavity with sheet glass layers, billet pieces, frit, or a combination. Load 875 to 1100 grams per casting; the range gives flexibility depending on the final thickness and technique.
The mold is COE agnostic. Match your firing schedule to the specific glass you are using.
Let the kiln cool fully before removing the cast piece. Re-coat the mold with primer before the next firing.
Colour de Verre Suggested Firing Schedule
This is a suggested starting schedule based on Colour de Verre general guidance, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Consult the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold and test a small run before committing to a full firing.
Heat no faster than about 350 F (195 C) per hour through the heating phase to avoid thermal shock to the mold and glass.
Fire to a peak of no more than about 1450 F (785 C).
Add a controlled cool and hold at the anneal temperature appropriate for your glass; consult the Colour de Verre project sheet and your glass manufacturer for the correct soak temperature.
