The Small Beach Shells mold from Colour de Verre casts four small shell-shaped glass pieces in a single firing. It forms the four smallest shells in the Colour de Verre beach collection, and is designed to pair with the Beach Shells-Medium, Sea Horse and Starfish, and Tropical Fish molds for a coordinated set of ocean-themed castings.
Like all Colour de Verre ceramic casting molds, this one is COE agnostic. Load each cavity with frit and fire to shape. The mold is reusable across many firings when primed properly before each use.
What does the Small Beach Shells mold make?
It casts four small shell-shaped glass pieces in one firing, forming the smallest shells in the Colour de Verre beach mold series.
How much glass does each cavity need?
Fill weights vary by cavity shape, so consult the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold for complete per-cavity fill figures.
What COE glass can I use?
Any COE. Ceramic casting molds are COE agnostic, so the same mold works with COE96, COE90, or other fusible glass. Match your firing schedule to the glass you are using.
How do I prep the mold before each firing?
Colour de Verre requires priming before every use. Apply ZYP BN Lubricoat or Hotline Primo Primer to the cavities and let the primer dry completely before adding glass.
What other molds pair with this one?
It coordinates with the Beach Shells-Medium, Sea Horse and Starfish, and Tropical Fish molds from Colour de Verre.

Working Notes
These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold.
- Prime all cavities before every firing. Colour de Verre recommends ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer or Hotline Primo Primer. Let the primer dry completely before adding glass so the cast pieces release cleanly.
- Fill cavities with frit, powder, or small billets. Check the Colour de Verre project sheet for per-cavity fill figures.
- The mold is COE agnostic. Use a full fuse schedule matched to your glass, and adjust the anneal soak temperature for your COE.
- Let the kiln cool fully before removing cast pieces. Re-prime the mold before the next firing.
Suggested Firing Schedule
This is a general starting schedule based on Colour de Verre guidance, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold and test a small run first.
- Heat no faster than about 350 F (195 C) per hour.
- Fire to no more than about 1450 F (785 C).
- Include a controlled cool and an anneal soak suited to your glass and COE.
