Snowflakes Decal Sheet

This 5.25 x 4 inch sheet carries 29 individual snowflake decals in a wide range of forms: intricate six-pointed crystals with layered branching arms, elongated starburst shapes with fine radiating points, compact geometric snowflakes with bold symmetrical detail, and spare radial burst patterns that read as stark winter stars. Most of the designs are rendered in a silver-white metallic tone against the light backing sheet. A column of darker snowflakes runs along the left side of the sheet in charcoal and solid black, giving you tonal range within a single purchase. No two designs on the sheet are identical.

These are water-slide transfer decals, made to be fired onto the surface of pre-fired glass. Soak a decal briefly in room-temperature water until it releases freely from its backing paper, then slide it into position on clean pre-fired glass and smooth gently from the center outward to clear bubbles and trapped water. Allow the piece to dry fully before loading the kiln. On firing, the design bonds to the glass surface, adding crisp printed detail without requiring a compatible glass layer. Because the decal fires onto the surface rather than between layers, these sheets work with any COE glass.

Can I apply these to a completed fused piece I want to re-fire?
Yes. The decal bonds to the surface of pre-fired glass rather than fusing between layers, so these are a natural fit for adding printed detail to finished pieces going back into the kiln for a final surface treatment.

How do I separate the individual snowflakes on the sheet?
Each snowflake is a separate printed shape. Cut between them with scissors or a sharp craft knife and apply them one at a time to different pieces, or arrange several together on a single surface before firing.

Do the silver-white and darker decals fire at the same temperature?
Yes. All the designs on this single-color sheet fire in the same range, roughly 1240 to 1370 degrees, kept toward the lower end to preserve density. Test a single decal on a scrap piece before committing a finished project to any firing program.

What surface condition does the glass need before applying a decal?
The glass should be clean, smooth, and completely free of dust, oils, and residue. Wipe with a lint-free cloth before positioning the decal. Heavily textured surfaces can trap air beneath the decal during firing, which may cause adhesion problems.

Working Notes

Apply decals to dry, clean pre-fired glass. Soak each decal in room-temperature water until it slides freely off its backing, typically 30 to 60 seconds. Slide it into position, smooth out bubbles and water pockets from center to edge with a soft tool or fingertip, and allow the piece to dry completely before kiln loading. Any moisture remaining under the decal during the early ramp phase can cause cracking or lifting.

Suggested Firing Schedule (a starting point only, not a guarantee of results; every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass): Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees. Ramp 50 degrees per hour to 185 degrees, hold 20 minutes. Ramp 150 degrees per hour to 300 degrees, hold 15 minutes. Ramp 250 degrees per hour to 500 degrees, hold 15 minutes. Ramp 600 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees, hold 10 minutes. Then ramp to a final 1240 to 1370 degrees, held about 10 minutes, staying toward the lower end to preserve the metallic finish. Anneal for the thickness of your glass.
