Star Gaze is night in mineral form. In the hand the mix reads mostly dark: black and near black grains, some flecked with a faint metallic sheen, set off by sharp cobalt blue chips and small white opal pieces spread through the scatter like stars. The cobalt pieces are dense and saturated, the white chips small and clean, and the darkest grains vary from true black to a smoky charcoal. There are no reds, greens or warm tones anywhere in it; this is strictly a night palette.
The sheen comes from aventurine blue in the recipe. It is COE90, made from Bullseye glass, and belongs only with other COE90 glass in a firing.
