The Summer Floral Mold from Colour de Verre is a ceramic frit-casting mold that casts a single sculpted blank, 9 inches across, featuring a central chrysanthemum design. It is designed as the first step in a two-step process: cast the sculpted blank in this mold first, then slump the finished blank over a Colour de Verre bowl or plate slumper to create a decorative bowl or plate.
Fill the cavity with about 600 grams of frit and fire to shape. Like all ceramic casting molds, it is COE agnostic and reusable across many firings when the cavity is primed before each use.
What does the Summer Floral Mold make? It casts one 9 inch sculpted glass blank with a chrysanthemum design pressed into the surface. That blank is then slumped to its final bowl or plate shape in a second firing.
What is the two-step process? In the first step, fill the mold cavity with frit and cast the sculpted blank. In the second step, place the cast blank on a Colour de Verre bowl or plate slumper and fire again until the piece reaches its finished curved form.
How much frit do I need? Colour de Verre lists about 600 grams of frit for this cavity. Weigh your glass before filling and test a first run when a precise result matters.
What COE glass can I use, and how do I prep the mold? Any COE. Ceramic casting molds are COE agnostic, so the same mold works with COE96, COE90, or other fusible glass. Prime the cavity before every use with a Colour de Verre-recommended primer and let it dry completely before loading frit.

Working Notes
These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold and test a small run first when the result matters.
Prime the cavity before every use. Colour de Verre calls for ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer or Hotline Primo Primer . Allow the primer to dry completely before adding frit.
Fill the cavity with about 600 grams of frit. Weigh the glass for a consistent fill across firings.
The mold is COE agnostic. Use a firing schedule matched to the glass you are using.
Heat at no more than about 350 F (195 C) per hour to protect the mold and allow the glass to heat evenly.
Do not fire above about 1450 F (785 C) during the cast firing.
Anneal with a soak at the right temperature for your glass: about 950 F for COE96, or about 900 F for COE90.
Let the kiln cool fully before removing the blank. Re-prime the cavity before the next firing.
After casting, slump the blank over a Colour de Verre bowl or plate slumper to complete the two-step process.
Suggested Firing Schedule (Colour de Verre general guidance)
This is a suggested starting schedule, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold and test a small run first.
Ramp at no more than about 350 F (195 C) per hour up to process temperature.
Do not exceed about 1450 F (785 C) for the casting fire.
Hold briefly at top temperature, then drop to the anneal soak.
Anneal soak: about 950 F for COE96, or about 900 F for COE90. Hold long enough for a 9 inch piece to equalize temperature throughout.
Cool slowly and do not open the kiln until it reaches room temperature.
