Sun Textured Fusing Tile

The Sun Textured Fusing Tile from Creative Paradise is a 10 inch by 10 inch ceramic tile used like a kiln shelf tile during fusing. Place prepared sheet glass on top of the tile and fire: as the glass softens, it settles onto the tile surface and picks up the raised sun pattern, transferring that texture to the underside of the finished piece. Frit applied directly on the tile surface and fused creates a dramatic textured pattern piece.

The tile footprint is 10 inches by 10 inches, with a diagonal of 14.5 inches. Like all ceramic kiln tiles, it is COE agnostic and reusable across many firings when prepped with a separator between each use.

What does the Sun Textured Fusing Tile do?
It transfers a sun texture to the bottom surface of glass fused on top of it. Place sheet glass over the prepared tile and fire, and the finished piece picks up the sun pattern on its underside. Frit fused directly on the tile creates a patterned piece instead.

How do I use the tile with sheet glass?
Apply a glass separator or kiln wash to the tile surface following the manufacturer's instructions and let it dry completely. Lay your cut sheet glass on top of the prepared tile and fire using a schedule matched to your glass. The texture transfers from the tile to the glass as it fuses.

What COE glass can I use with this tile?
Any COE. Ceramic kiln tiles are COE agnostic, so the same tile works with COE96, COE90, or other fusible glass. Match your firing schedule to the glass you are using.

How do I maintain the tile between firings?
Re coat the tile surface with a glass separator or boron nitride primer between firings and let it dry completely before placing new glass. Inspect the surface for residue or damage before each use.

Working Notes

These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow a fusing schedule suited to your glass and kiln.

• Prime the tile surface with a boron nitride mold primer such as ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer, or a kiln wash such as Hotline Primo Primer, following the manufacturer's instructions, and let it dry completely before placing glass on top.
• Lay cut sheet glass directly on the prepared tile, or apply frit across the tile surface and fuse for a patterned piece. The legacy schedule is based on a double layer of COE96 glass.
• The tile is COE agnostic. Use a fusing schedule matched to your glass, adjusting the final anneal soak for your COE.
• Let the kiln cool fully before removing the fused piece. Re coat the tile with separator or kiln wash as needed between firings.

Creative Paradise Suggested Firing Schedule

This is a suggested COE96 starting schedule, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Test a small run and adjust the schedule for your glass and kiln.

Full Fuse (COE96): suggested for a double layer of COE96 glass.

*Segment 4 is the anneal soak at 950 F for COE96. If using COE90, adjust this temperature to 900 F.
