Tray Slumping Mold

The GM97 Handle Tray slumping mold from Creative Paradise is a draping form that shapes glass into a rectangular tray with handles. The mold measures 13 inches by 7 inches with a diagonal of 15.25 inches. Because the amount of glass needed per firing is modest, the mold is accessible to fusers at any experience level.

Like all ceramic slumping molds, this one is COE agnostic. Place a pre-fused or sheet glass blank over the form, heat it to a draping temperature, and gravity pulls the softened glass down into the tray shape. The manufacturer's suggested schedule is written for a double layer of COE96 glass. The mold is reusable across many firings when prepped and cared for properly.

What does the Handle Tray mold make?
It drapes glass into a rectangular tray shape with handles. The mold form is 13 inches by 7 inches, so cut your glass blank to cover the form before firing.

Is this a slumping mold or a casting mold?
It is a slumping mold. You place a pre-made glass sheet or fused blank over the form and heat it so the glass softens and drapes into the tray shape by gravity. You do not fill it with frit.

What COE glass can I use?
Any COE. Ceramic slumping molds are COE agnostic, so the same mold works with COE96, COE90, or other fusible glass. Match your firing schedule to the glass you are using.

How do I prep the mold before slumping?
Coat the mold surface with a kiln shelf primer such as a boron nitride spray or a kiln wash such as Hotline Primo Primer, and let it dry completely before placing your glass blank on top.

Working Notes

These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow a slumping schedule suited to your glass and kiln.

• Prime the mold surface with a boron nitride mold primer such as ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer, or a kiln wash, and let it dry completely before placing your glass on the form.
• The manufacturer's suggested schedule is written for a double layer of COE96 glass. Cut your blank to cover the form and stack two layers before firing.
• The mold is COE agnostic. Use a draping schedule matched to your glass, adjusting the final anneal soak for your COE.
• Let the kiln cool fully before removing the slumped tray. Re coat the mold with primer as needed between firings.
• The Slide Hi Temp brand separator is not recommended with these molds.

Creative Paradise Suggested Firing Schedule

This is a suggested COE96 starting schedule, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Test a small run and adjust the schedule for your glass and kiln.

Drape (COE96, double layer):

*Segment 4 is the anneal soak at 950 F for COE96. If using COE90, adjust this temperature to 900 F.
