These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold.
Prime the cavities with a boron nitride mold primer before every firing. Colour de Verre calls for ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer or Hotline Primo Primer . Let it dry completely before adding frit so the glass does not stick.
Fill each cavity with frit in your chosen colors. The larger fish cavities take 32 to 36 grams and the smaller ones take 12 to 15 grams per cavity.
Ramp no faster than about 350 F (195 C) per hour to avoid thermal shock to both the mold and the glass.
Fire to no more than about 1450 F (785 C) overall. Colour de Verre suggests a fusing target of 1290 F to 1310 F (700 C to 710 C) for COE 96 glass.
For COE 90 glass, fire about 25 F (15 C) hotter than the COE 96 target temperature.
Finish with a controlled cool and an anneal soak suited to your specific glass and its COE.
Let the kiln cool fully before removing pieces. Re-prime the cavities before the next firing.
