Vintage 1 Texture Fusing Tile

It is used in place of a standard kiln shelf tile: lay a glass sheet or fused blank face-down on the prepared tile surface, fire, and the texture transfers to the underside of the glass. Like all Creative Paradise ceramic kiln tools, this tile is COE agnostic and works with any fusible glass. Apply a glass separator or kiln wash to the tile before each firing so the glass releases cleanly after cooling. The tile is reusable across many firings when properly prepped and maintained.

What does the Vintage 1 Texture Fusing Tile do?
It imprints a vintage texture onto the underside of glass during fusing. Place a glass sheet or fused blank face-down on the prepared tile surface and fire; the tile transfers its pattern to the glass by contact.

Can I fuse frit directly on the tile?
Yes. Frit may be fused on the tile surface to create a dramatic pattern. Prime the tile with a glass separator or kiln wash first, arrange your frit over the texture, and fire.

How do I prep the tile before firing?
Follow the glass separator or kiln wash manufacturer instructions to apply and cure the separator on the tile surface. Let it dry completely before placing glass. A boron nitride spray is a common choice for this step.

Working Notes

These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow a schedule suited to your glass and kiln.

• Prime the tile surface with a boron nitride mold primer such as ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer, or a kiln wash such as Hotline Primo Primer, following the manufacturer instructions. Let it dry completely before placing glass.
• To texture and fuse in one firing, place unfused glass sheet face-down on the prepared tile and run the suggested Full Fuse schedule below.
• To texture a pre-fused blank, place the finished piece face-down on the prepared tile and fire with a texturing schedule suited to your glass, keeping the peak temperature below a full fuse.
• Frit may also be fused directly on the tile surface to create a patterned piece. Prep the tile with separator first and arrange the frit over the texture before firing.
• The tile is COE agnostic. Adjust the anneal soak temperature for your COE: 950 F for COE96, 900 F for COE90.
• Let the kiln cool fully before removing the piece. Re coat the tile with separator as needed between firings.

Creative Paradise Suggested Firing Schedule

This is a suggested COE96 starting schedule, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Test a small run and adjust the schedule for your glass and kiln.

Full Fuse (COE96): for two full layers of COE96 glass.

*Segment 4 is the anneal soak at 950 F for COE96. If using COE90, adjust this temperature to 900 F.
