This sheet carries fifteen circles, each printed with a distinct vintage Japanese kimono pattern. The designs span a wide palette: deep crimson and gold diamond lattices, warm orange fields scattered with traditional flower sprigs, a bold black circle bursting with multicolored blooms, teal grounds hosting delicate floral clusters, a soft yellow field dotted with small flowers, and blue and coral geometric motifs. Each circle reads like a swatch lifted from antique Japanese textile fabric, and because every pattern differs, a single sheet gives you fifteen unique accent options for fused glass work.
These are water-slide color decals that fire onto the surface of pre-fired glass. Because the decal bonds to the surface rather than fusing as a compatible glass layer, it works with any COE glass. Cut a circle free, soak it briefly until it releases from its backing, slide it onto clean pre-fired glass, smooth out water and bubbles, let it dry fully, then fire. The result is a kiln-permanent image on the glass surface.
What do the individual circle designs look like? Each of the fifteen circles carries a different pattern drawn from traditional Japanese textile art. Motifs include geometric diamond and lattice grids, scattered chrysanthemum and blossom sprigs, bold all-over florals on dark grounds, and loose flower clusters on light fields. Colors across the sheet include deep red, warm orange, black, teal, coral, blue, yellow, and cream.
What base glass color works best? These are color decals, so they show their strongest color and crispest detail on white or very light-colored glass. On medium to dark glass the printed color will lose strength, so select your base glass accordingly before applying.
How do I apply one of these decals? Cut the desired circle free from the sheet and soak it in clean room-temperature water for approximately 30 to 60 seconds, until the decal slides freely off its paper backing. Position it on clean, dry, pre-fired glass and gently smooth from the center outward to remove water and air bubbles. Allow the piece to dry completely before placing it in the kiln.
Can I use these decals on glass of any COE? Yes. These fusible decals fire onto the surface of already-fired glass rather than being incorporated as a fused glass layer, so they are compatible with any COE glass. Complete your base glass piece in a separate firing first, then apply and fire the decal.
Specifications
SKU: 155467 Sold as a printed water-slide decal sheet Decal count: 15 kimono-pattern circle designs Sheet size: 4 x 5.25 inches Firing range: 1275 to 1380 degrees Fires onto pre-fired glass of any COE Working Notes
Apply these decals to clean, pre-fired glass only. Oils, fingerprints, or residue on the glass surface can compromise adhesion, so handle the base piece by its edges after cleaning. Once a decal is positioned and dried, avoid flexing or moving the glass before the kiln firing. White or very light base glass will yield the most vivid color results, with reduced intensity on medium or dark glass.
Suggested Firing Schedule (a suggested starting point only, not a guarantee of results): Final firing temperature is roughly 1275 to 1380 degrees, held about 10 minutes. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees. 50 DPH to 185 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 20 min. 150 DPH to 300 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 15 min. 250 DPH to 500 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 15 min. 600 DPH to 1000 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 10 min. Then advance to 1275 to 1380 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 10 min. Anneal for the thickness of your glass. Every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first.
