The Vortex Decal Sheet presents ten black wireframe geometric forms, each rendered as a fine grid mesh that traces a distinct three-dimensional mathematical surface. The designs include hourglass and hyperboloid shapes, torus rings, dome sections, spiral funnels, a fanned half-dome, and a flared bell form, all drawn in dark line work on a white background. The overall effect is precise and architectural, evoking classic topology diagrams and surface-modeling illustrations.
These are water-slide decals intended to be fired onto the surface of pre-fired glass, adding graphic line work and geometric detail to finished fused pieces. The sheet measures 5.25 by 4 inches and carries ten individual decals, each roughly 1 by 2 inches. Because the decals fire onto the glass surface rather than fusing as a glass layer, they work with pre-fired glass of any COE.
Can I use these decals on glass of any COE? Yes. Vortex decals are fired onto the surface of already-fired glass and do not need to match the COE of your base piece. Clean your pre-fired glass thoroughly before application to ensure good adhesion during firing.
How do I apply a water-slide decal? Soak the decal in room-temperature water for about 30 seconds, or until it releases freely from its backing paper. Slide the image onto your clean, dry, pre-fired glass surface and ease the backing away while guiding the design into place. Smooth out any trapped water and bubbles with a soft squeegee or damp fingertip, working from the center outward. Let the piece dry completely before placing it in the kiln.
How many decals are on the sheet, and can they be trimmed? Each sheet carries ten Vortex decals, each roughly 1 by 2 inches. You can cut individual decals apart with scissors before soaking to isolate a single motif or to fit a specific area of your glass piece.
What kinds of glass projects suit these geometric designs? The wireframe forms work well on tiles, bowls, panels, and decorative wall pieces. The black line work reads clearly against both light and dark base glass, and the technical style pairs naturally with contemporary or minimalist fused work.
Specifications
SKU: 155455 Sheet size: 5.25 inches by 4 inches Decal count: 10 per sheet Individual decal size: roughly 1 inch by 2 inches each Firing range: 1240 to 1370 degrees F Compatible with pre-fired glass of any COE Working Notes
Apply decals only to clean, thoroughly fired glass. Oils, residue, or kiln wash dust on the surface can prevent the decal from bonding properly during firing. Allow the piece to dry completely after application before loading the kiln; moisture trapped under a decal can cause lifting or blistering.
Suggested Firing Schedule (a starting point only, not a guarantee of results): This is a single-color decal, so fire toward the lower end of its range to keep the image dense. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees F and fire slowly below 500 degrees F. Every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass. 50 degrees per hour to 185 degrees F, hold 20 min. 150 degrees per hour to 300 degrees F, hold 15 min. 250 degrees per hour to 500 degrees F, hold 15 min. 600 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees F, hold 10 min. Then to 1240 to 1370 degrees F, hold about 10 min. Anneal for the thickness of your glass.
