Wissmach Superior Blue (color code 96-05) is COE 96 kiln glass, an even cornflower blue opaque in a 3mm sheet, tested for fusing compatibility.
Appearance A smooth, even cornflower blue that reads nearly flat across the sheet, with none of the mottling or streaking found in the blended colors. As an opaque it blocks light, so it looks the same on a tabletop as it does held up to a window, which makes it a dependable solid blue for backgrounds, borders and layered work.
Striking As with Wissmach's other Opaque colors, Superior Blue may strike to a slightly deeper, denser blue in the kiln. Expect the fired piece a touch richer than the unfired sheet, and fire a test chip when the exact shade matters.
Working notes Wissmach’s recommended full fuse schedule for a 6mm project made from two 3mm layers: heat at 300 degrees F per hour to 1225 F and hold 30 minutes, then 600 per hour to 1460 F with a 10 minute hold, cool as fast as the kiln allows to 960 F and hold 1 hour, then 100 per hour down to 700 F. These numbers come from Wissmach’s current published firing guidance. They are guidelines, not guarantees. Kilns differ, so fire a small test piece first.
Reactions Superior Blue is not flagged on Wissmach's COE 96 reactive chart. It sits next to any color in the line without forming a reaction line, so you can place it against coppers and sulfurs alike without planning around chemistry.
