Oceanside Blue Topaz Transparent (style 5332-96) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible frit, bright blue crushed glass for shading, accents and casting.
Appearance
This frit is a bright topaz blue, a clear transparent turquoise-blue that sparkles where light passes through the crushed chips. Loose in the jar it reads a lively aqua, catching highlights on every cut face. It fires as a clean transparent blue.
Working notes
Being transparent, this blue reads strongest over a light or clear base and deepens where the frit builds up thicker. Sprinkle it for shading and accents, or pack it for a solid blue fill. A full fuse melts it to a smooth surface, while a lighter firing keeps a granular, textured finish.
Reactions
This is a copper-bearing color, rated high on the System 96 reactive scale. Fused against a sulfur-bearing glass it can develop a reaction line or a shift in color where the two meet, an effect fusers use on purpose for shading and depth. Next to non-reactive colors it stays true. See the System 96 Reactive Color Chart for the colors it reacts with.
Using the frit
Frit is crushed glass sold in grades from fine powder to coarse chips. Fine grades work for soft shading and blending color across a surface, medium grades add speckle and fill, and coarse grades give texture and body for casting. Sift or place it by hand to control where the color lands. It is System 96 96 COE, compatible with the rest of the System 96 family.
Fusing and compatibility
Tested compatible with other System 96 glass, so it fuses cleanly with any 96 COE product in the System 96 family. When you combine it with glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a small test tile first.
