Oceanside Steel Blue Stringers (style OGTS5384F) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible stringers, thin threads of transparent steel blue glass.
Appearance
The photo shows fine round threads of transparent steel blue glass laid across one another. The color is a soft, slightly grayed blue, clear and glassy, and the thin strands read as delicate blue lines against a light background.
Working notes
These are thin round threads, so they respond quickly in the kiln and melt into the surface they sit on. Placed on a base they soften and fuse flat during a full fuse, while a light tack fuse leaves them raised as visible lines. As a transparent color the blue reads brightest over a light base. It is a copper-bearing color, so it can react where it touches sulfur-bearing glass, as noted below.
Reactions
This is a copper-bearing color, rated medium on the System 96 reactive scale. Fused against a sulfur-bearing glass it can develop a reaction line or a shift in color where the two meet, an effect fusers use on purpose for shading and depth. Using the stringers
Stringers are thin glass threads used for lines and fine linework. Lay them on a fused surface for outlines, borders, lettering, tree branches, or any thin detail that would be hard to cut. They can be scored and snapped to length or gently bent over heat. This is System 96 glass, 96 COE.
Fusing and compatibility
Tested compatible with other System 96 glass, so it fuses cleanly with any 96 COE product in the System 96 family. When you combine it with glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a small test tile first.
