Oceanside Terra Cotta Opalescent (style 2152-96) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible frit, crushed opalescent glass in a warm terra cotta orange.
Appearance
A warm earthy terra cotta, a burnt orange with a brown-red lean. The opal granules are opaque, matte where light catches the broken faces, and hold a solid earthy orange color throughout.
Working notes
As an opal, the frit reads as a solid color where it is laid down. Use it to add warm terra cotta shading, texture, and color washes on a base. A full fuse melts the granules into the surface, while a lighter firing keeps more grain and texture.
Reactions
This is a sulfur-bearing color, rated low on the System 96 reactive scale. Fused against a copper-bearing glass it can develop a reaction line or a shift in color where the two meet, an effect fusers use on purpose for shading and depth. Next to non-reactive colors it stays true. See the System 96 Reactive Color Chart for the colors it reacts with.
Using the frit
Frit is crushed glass, sold in grades from fine to coarse for shading, blending, and casting. Sift or sprinkle it onto a base to build color and texture, or pack it into molds for casting. Finer grades melt smoother, coarser grades hold more grain.
Fusing and compatibility
Tested compatible with other System 96 glass, so it fuses cleanly with any 96 COE product in the System 96 family. When you combine it with glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a small test tile first.
